Word Center Church: How Scripture Brings Life and Growth to God’s People by Jonathan Leeman, is a new work in the 9Marks series published by Moody publishers. Any book in the 9Marks series can be trusted but this book goes far beyond any book published in the series. This work focuses on the need for scripture to be the foundation upon which the church exists period meaning that God’s word must be the basis for everything that the church does. Leeman has a great grasp on how God’s word not only affects the ministry of the church but undergirds all that it is about.
In Word Center Church, Leeman focuses on three areas of what it means to be a word centered Church. These areas are the word of God itself the sermon and the church. Meaning that Leeman examines what God’s word inspires us to do, what the sermon of God’s word must contain, and how The Church Must worship. While both parts 1 & 2 are excellent, but part 3 challenges and invigorates one’s idea of what worshipping and discipling by the Bible actually means. For Leeman demonstrates how we must sing the Bible, pray the Bible, be Disciples of the Bible, go out and share the Bible, and invite others to worship so that they may know the Bible.
This work, is a book that needs to be read. By this I mean that this book needs to be read by every pastor, church leader, and congregate. For it applies to every single person who calls themselves a follower of God. Every Pastor in church leader must have this concept of what the church must do so that they are a God-centered church period while each congregant must know what a God-centered church looks like so that they may know if they in are in a church that holds scripture as its foundation.
