The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible, written by Jared Kennedy, illustrated by Trish Mahoney, and published by New Growth Press, is a bright and colorful Bible story book geared toward children of toddler and preschool age.
This book is wonderful. Each Bible account is condensed down to between four and six pages, and is written in a simple, engaging style that even an older toddler can follow along with. Along with bright, friendly pictures to accompany each account, there is a simple question related to the story that even my 2.5 year old can generally answer.
The book is divided into Old Testament and New Testament sections, just as an adult Bible would be, and unlike most children’s story Bibles, this one doesn’t end with Jesus’ birth or with His resurrection. This book includes, instead, accounts such as the disciples and believers receiving the Holy Spirit, Philip’s meeting the Ethiopian Eunuch, Saul meeting Jesus on the road to Damascus, and Paul’s missionary journeys. Many times, children’s Bible storybooks simply leave out the majority of the New Testament; this book does a good job of including those narratives.
Overall, I would highly recommend this book to any family looking for a simple, engaging, gospel-centered book geared toward teaching their young children the truths of the Scriptures. This book does a great job of presenting Biblical narratives in a way that presents them as more than just stories like those found in any other children’s book.
