B&H Publications produces a wonderful commentary series aimed at the uneducated laymen that focuses on practical application. These are also short which are perfect for devotional reading or for the very busy pastor who is looking for practical application for a teaching lesson. The writing for reach section is easy to read while being short and to the point.
The volume for Psalms 1-75 is a wonderful addition to this stellar commentary, not only is it written by the distinguished pastor scholar Steven J. Lawson but it is written from a reformed perspective. This is the first of a two volume set dealing with the psalms.
While reading an assortment of psalms in the book , I was saddened to see a lack of exegetical commentary about each verse. Yet on the other hand comments about application of the passage are indispensable information that is sorely lacking in almost every modern commentary.
No knowledge of the Biblical Hebrew language is needed when utilizing this commentary. I highly recommend this commentary to pastors and scholars due to its thorough academic approach combined with its accessibility to academia and the pastorate.
This book was provided to me free of charge from B&H in exchange for an unbiased, honest review.
